Revolution Season 1 Review

Lemme get this straight, all of electricity is now gone, so how again do our brains function? I'm Linus Schill, and this is my review of Revolution: Season 1.

Back when the pilot first aired for this show, the released it for free on iTunes. This is always a smart idea for a new TV show because it reaches more people, and just seeing "Free" makes them jump to download it. The pilot did a very good job at keeping you hooked. It introduced a great idea that made you think a lot. What would happen to society if all electronics were rendered obsolete. However, a lot of problems are raised. A LOT. How do our brains work, when everything we do is because of electrical impulses. Why can't you just make a potato battery? Although, there are some things wrong with the show other than just the science.

Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 14: The Name of the Doctor Review

Introducing Linus Schill...as The Blogger. Welcome to my BLT Film Review of "The Name of the Doctor"

After BBC released the final episode poster/name, my heart skipped a beat. The doctor's name is the most important secret in the history of, ever. The shows title is asking what his name is, and having an episode thats called "The Name of the Doctor" was very surprising. Although his name was not ever revealed, it was a key part in the episode. Literally being a "key", to open the doctors tomb.
There were lots of things about this episode that was clever, I loved how the TARDIS was leaking so it became its real size. I also liked how Madam Vastra (the reptile Silurian), Strax, Jenny, Clara, and River have their own telepathic tea party. The explanation to Clara was very smart, yet somewhat predictable. I loved the "appearances" by the other Doctors, seeing them go into other episodes was very funny.
!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!MOUSE OVER TO REVEAL!!!!! I love the fact that John Hurt is the Doctor. He did a great job as Olivander in the Harry Potter films, and in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. As bad as that movie was, he was still good. It is interesting they are going back to older Doctors though, because he is 73. When I saw Matt Smith for the first time a few years ago I didn't understand why they got him. He looked similar to David Tennant, and was even younger. He will be the oldest Doctor, by almost 20 years. In fact, Tom Baker (4th Doctor) could play it today, and be only 6 years older than John Hurt. John Hurt will also be in 50th anniversary special

Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 13: Nightmare in Silver Review

Ugh, really? Cybermen AGAIN! I'm Linus Schill and this is my BLT Film Review of Nightmare in Silver.

When I heard that they were going to make yet another episode on Cybermen, all I could do was sigh. Well it is great seeing some reoccurring monsters, that doesn't mean use them over and over. This is even more so with the Daleks, if I see another episode with Daleks in them I won't even watch it. The Cybermen are a little different, there isn't that much you can do with them. Cybermen have two goals, delete (kill), and upgrade (turn into Cybermen).

Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 12: Crimson Horror

I'm Linus Schill, and thank you for clicking on this review, of Doctor Who.

When I saw that the name of the episode was "The Crimson Horror", I was instantly intrigued. As I've said before, I think that the episodes of Doctor Who that involve horror are always the best, because it limits the risk of jokes being lost, or "funny" moments not actually being amusing, which can happen. Not only that, but also because there hasn't been a bad one yet. Now, the name does skew you away from the actual tone of the episode.
I personally did not think that it was one of the "scary" episodes, but the name that the locals gave to the rejects was very apt, because it felt like that is the kind of thing they would call it. I was not expecting that the Doctor would be locked up in the room, because it felt like there would actually be a "monster". Doctor Who usually has that kind of thing, the main person, the ruler, the overlord, or just the big bad wolf. I didn't expect Mr. Sweet to be a little worm parasite, thing, on her chest. I knew that Mr. Sweet was something alien, or supernatural, but I didn't think it would be hiding there the whole time.

Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 11: Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS Review

When I looked at the list of the names of Season 7 part two episodes, I couldn't believe when I saw this. I love seeing parts of the TARDIS, in all its glory and mystery. Ever since David Tennant was going through the TARDIS wardrobe I couldn't help but imagine how large the entire ship was. Then we got a peak at in The Doctors Wife, when Amy and Rory were trapped running through the halls, but those were mostly illusions, with this episode we got to see all of the rooms referenced from previous episodes. We saw the swimming pool, the library, even an astronomy tower (what?).
!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!MOUSE OVER TO REVEAL!!!!! I sort of predicted that the creatures were Clara, but not completely.

This was one of those episodes that were just so strange you felt like you should just go along with what ever the Doctor is saying, that it made it very confusing at times. I'm sure thats how the companions feel all the time. When ever the past, present, and future meet at the same moment things start to get strange.

Doctor Who Season 7 Episode 10: Hide Review

When I saw the preview for this episode after The Cold War, I couldn't help but get excited. There are very few "scary" Doctor Who episodes, and I feel like the scary ones are the best. With The Empty Child, Blink, Silence in the Library, and Forest of the Dead, there hasn't been a bad one yet. Hide is no exception. The ghostly figure resembles Scream a lot, while I have not seen the films I know the face and both are very scary.
Its not all about the jump in your face things, its the subtleties that really terrify you. For example, in Blink, when Sally Sparrow would walk in front of a few angels, they would change slightly for the camera, and when she moved back across them, they would return. When you notice these things it really makes you feel wrapped into the story, and the characters. The same thing happens in this episode. Little things like the lightning flashing and a face appearing, unfocused, behind them.
Clara and the Doctor had a lot of great moments, the windmill high five, and the quirky jokes and comments. I also liked how they introduced Clara to the epiphany that all the companions go through: they have been both dead for millions of years, and millions of years away from being born. The thought that they are so insignificant makes for an emotional moment in all of them. This was done really well in this episode too.
All together it was a really good episode, so I give it 4 ingredients. Thank you for reading my BLT Review of the 10th episode of season 7 (or 4th of part 2), Hide. See you next time.

Smallville Seasons 1-2 Review

With the greatly anticipated Man of Steel coming out in just a matter of months, I figured that I would try and watch as much Superman as possible to get me psyched for the film. I have heard a lot of people talking about the show Smallville. So I decided, about a month ago, that I would try and watch as much of the show as possible. When I heard that there were 10 season I just thought to my self that the show couldn't possibly be good throughout the whole series. However, the first two seasons still stand strong.

This show so far is really great and has a lot to like about it. Certain episodes remind me a lot of the X-Files. It has the strange, mysterious event(s) caused by someone/something, and a parter of people have to go investigate to stop it. I love the idea that when Clark Kent crashed landed in Smallville that the meteors affected the whole town, giving all of them strange abilities. There are, however, a few things that aren't so great about it. There is a certain kind of episode that seems to occur a lot.
When two characters are even slightly getting development into their relationship, some force affects the minds of one of the people. This will cause the person to not be their self, and do things that ruin the relationship and cause more drama This occurs throughout the first and second season over 4 times.
!!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!!MOUSE OVER TO REVEAL!!!!! In fact, the close of the second season was Clark putting on the red Kryptonite ring, altering his mind, and then riding off on a motorcycle leaving his (possibly ex)  girlfriend Lana Lang.

Other than this repetitive plot of an episode, the show is really great so far. I give it 4 ingredients because the recycled plot brings it down a fair bit. Thank you for reading my BLT review of the first two seasons of Smallville, and as always, see you next time!

Doctor Who Season 7 Part 2 Review

With the second part of the 7th season Doctor Who 3 episodes in, I figured I should begin reviewing them, and other TV shows too. When the 4th season of Arrested Development is released on Netflix this May I will be reviewing them as well.
I have been watching Doctor Who since 2006, and it has changed a lot. When Matt Smith came everything began to change. Different writers, different head of the show, everything was different. Eventually, as the seasons went by, I stopped liking it, or at least my love for it died down. There were a lot things you could say that made all of the episodes seem very similar, and they were in many senses. Season 7 has been different, or at least part 2. We had been with Matt Smith and Karen Gillan since the first episode of season 5. Now that she is gone, and it was very sad, the show seems to be a little different again. Let me go through and briefly review each of the episodes from season 7 part 2, starting with the Christmas Special.
It took me a while to watch the Christmas Special, in fact, the only reason I went back to watch it was because I knew the new episodes were coming out. I saw trailers for it, and I thought it looked kind of dumb. It was ok, it was not my favorite episode but it was good for setting up the mystery behind Clara. The TARDIS in the cloud was very cool, and it posed for a great fairy tale story for the children "a man who lives on a cloud". The fact that the staircase was smaller on the inside was funny, and also how Clara said "its smaller on the outside". I liked how Clara's one word was "pond", that was very clever. It was fun but the plot was kind of, eh. Overall I would have to give this episode 3 ingredients.

The Bells of Saint John was an cool episode, it continued the mystery behind Clara and her many versions though out time. It also had a nice modern day setting to the plot. It was a interesting idea that there is something "in the Wi-Fi" and people's souls, or consciousness were being uploaded to the internet. I loved the motorcycle riding on the side of the Shard. It was a good episode, it kicked off the season with Clara and set up her leaving with the Doctor. Overall I give it 4 ingredients.

The Rings of Akhaten was another cool episode. The visuals were great, seeing the Doctor and Clara standing on the asteroid as it orbits that sun. However, I did have some problems with the episode. First of all, the TARDIS wasn't translating all of the alien's languages. As shown in previous seasons, the TARDIS will translate every language in all of the Universe, however you couldn't understand the creatures speaking. If you have any explanations I'd love to hear them in the comments below. I really am curious about why this happened. The little girl was great and very adorable. I also give this episode 4 ingredients.

When I saw the preview for The Cold War I couldn't help but get excited. I like when the Doctor visits key things in history, it always makes you think about what would have happened if it weren't for the Doctor and his companion. Now, I did doubt this episode because we have seen many like this in the past. I can't even count how many times we have seen the Doctor and Companion, trapped in some enclosed space, with a group of people that get picked off one by one. It gets very exhausting just watching the episodes over and over again. However, this episode was a little different. They knew the threat for a major part of the episode. It was very scary when Clara knocked the helmet off the armor and the Ice Warrior was not there, it was someone predictable though. Its hard to say what made this episode feel different then the other ones like this, but it did. I liked the pun they made on the name of the episode. "The Cold War", yes the time in history where the Soviet Union and the United States were at each other's throats. Also, "The Cold War" as in the war against the Cold, as in the Ice Warrior. The Ice Warrior, The Ice War, The Cold War. I do not know if this was intentional or coincidental, but its funny none the less. Back to the topic from before of the TARDIS and its translating ability. This is where the translating gets confusing. The Doctor tells Clara that the TARDIS translate the Russian into English, but there is one problem, wheres the TARDIS? Oh yeah, in the South Pole. So, when the TARDIS is there on an alien planet with the Doctor and the Companion, it doesn't translate, but when the TARDIS is on the other side of the planet it does? Its confusing but easy to ignore. I give this episode to 4 ingredients, it wasn't perfect, but it was good. Thank you for reading my review of the second part of Season 7 of Doctor Who, expect them every week following the release of the new episodes. Until next time!
