BLT Buffet #5: Super Bowl Trailers, and More!

Hello and welcome to BLT Buffet #5. This week I will be discussing multiple great new trailers  and TV spots released at the Big Game this past Sunday. I'm Linus Schill, and this is my review of the latest and greatest news from the world of entertainment.

When people think of the “The Big Game”, or The Super Bowl, they think of two things: the actual game, and the insane memorable commercials that come with it. Some people (myself included) don’t even watch the game, but only focus their attention on the commercials. With the commercials, also comes new movie trailers for that years movie. Last year I talked about the Iron Man 3 Super Bowl “Extended Look”, so this year it was expected there would be more. The movies I had been assuming would drop new trailers were Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Transformers: Age of Extinction, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Of those 6 movies expected, we got 3, Cap 2, Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Transformers 4. I was disappointed that we didn’t get a real trailer for Guardians because the movie is only 8 months away and other than an official picture and a leaked trailer we haven’t seen anything from this movie. To me this doesn’t make a lot of sense because 99% of people don’t know who they are and the advertising has to convince people this is a movie they should spend $10 on. But regardless, I am getting off topic. Its time to talk about the trailers we did see at the 2014 NFL Superbowl XLVIII.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier TV Spots and Trailer
Following the recent trend of a trailer for a trailer, when the Captain America: The Winter Soldier 30 second teaser hit the web I was extremely excited. I loved the first Captain America film and I also loved the first trailer for the second one. Of the three trailers we got, two TV spots and a full-length trailer, I love them all. The full-length trailer gave us a look at who “The Winter Soldier” was, but at the same time not telling us who he was. Many people wondered how he did all of these insane things, including catching Cap’s shield, and the robotic arm explains it. It also gave us even more of Anthony Mackie as “Falcon”, which I know will be awesome. There is a shot in the trailer where a mysterious character has died, and Cap and Black Widow are standing over it, Black Widow crying. It doesn't appear to be Nick Fury, solely because in the car crash he is a victim of, it shows him emerging from the wreckage, and in later shots talking just fine with a few cuts and bruises. It also doesn’t appear to be Falcon because he is seen at the funeral. Who ever it may be it looks like it will be a big part of the film. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 TV Spots and Trailer.
When people start complaining about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 having “too many villains” it really ticks me off. Spider-Man 3 was not bad just because of the excess in villains, it was bad because of a terrible script, bad story, and the story of each villain was completely different, and it all tried to be one movie. From the looks of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 it seems that it too will follow the trend that everything starts at Oscorp. It may not be EXACTLY ADHERING TO THE COMINGS, but it doesn’t matter. Having everything occur as a result of the same company doing insane things with biology, makes for a much more realistic story. It worked great in the first one, and from the looks of this second trailer looks like it will for this one too. Whats great about this trailer, for me, is that it shows the history of Electro’s aggression, and his abilities. He is just a mild-mannered guy, who goes trying to fix an electrical problem, when he falls into the pit of special “magical” eels that turns him into Electro somehow. Obviously that sounds a little ridiculous, but for one we don’t know the whole story having not seen the film yet, and two its a comic book movie, its aloud to have some fun. And it looks good and compelling so I am all for this new origin of Electro. If you want to see the trailer, you can do so by clicking on this sentence.

Transformers: Age of Extinction First Teaser Trailer
The Transformers films have not been my favorite of movies. The first one was fun, stunning, and enjoying to watch. The second one was forgettable, boring, and terrible. The third one was also forgettable, but somewhat enjoyable. It had some cool things, but still pretty bad. So coming from this track record all that Michael Bay got from me was a groan. You can’t ask why he keeps making them because the last film is the 6th highest grossing movie of all time, with over $1.1 billion. The trailer that was announced at the Super Bowl didn’t get me any more excited then I already was: not at all. It looks the same as the past 3 films, minus the ridiculous robot, wielding a sword, riding a robot dinosaur. This franchise is insane, and not the insane that gets me excited for The LEGO Movie. This is the insane where you question “What the hell is even going on anymore” and don’t even bother to understand it, or see it. Now speaking realistically, it will probably make over $700 million and most likely more. I won’t see this film in theaters, the best it will get from me is a view on Netflix next year when I have nothing better to do.

Thank you for reading my discussion of the newest trailers and TV Spots coming out of this years Super Bowl. Look forward to my review of The LEGO Movie coming soon. Be sure to “Like” us down below, or visit our Facebook page at Facebook.com/BLTFilmsReviews. See you next time!
