Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Episode 1: Pilot Review

From Joss Whedon,  director of The Avengers, and 5 television series yet to be mentioned. I'm Linus Schill, and this is my review of episode one of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Avengers clocked in at earning over $1.5 billion at the worldwide box office, making it the third most grossing movies of all time. We all knew that Marvel had big plans for movies in the future, we knew The Avengers was coming in 2008, but I don't think a TV Show was expected. It makes loads of sense, even if the show is not successful, Joss has brought in so much cash to Marvel that it really doesn't matter.
Many things about this show gets me really excited for more to come. It is a pilot and those are never great. Especially in a show like this. In one hour six characters had to be introduced, a seventh had to had to go from being a hero to killing innocent people. I think that have Clark Gregg back as Agent Phil Coulson is great, and it allows this show to really feel like it is in the same universe, which brings me to my next point.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU, is one of the best things to ever happen to movies. Comic book movies used to never be taken seriously, and now you are seeing them gross literally hundreds of millions of dollars, some even over a billion. The MCU allows comic book fans to see all of their favorite characters wrapped into the same world, and then appear in the same movie together. The MCU already has one "phase" wrapped up, Phase Two started with Iron Man 3, and will continue in November. But there is also a Phase 3 planned with even MORE new characters. And now, we get to have a TV series, that ALSO stays in the same universe. Now Marvel has made it very clear that the TV series and the MCU will stay relatively separate. But whats great is that while this show is its own self-sustained thing, it also allows fans of both to connect it with the MCU. For example, Agent Coulson, Agent Hill. In the opening title sequence you can spot Stark Tower (or Avengers Tower??) in the distance. Also the great flashbacks to clips of the Hulk, and Thor, and Cap. But not just from the Avengers, also from Iron Man 3. Extremis, tied with Project Centipede, is the plot of the Pilot. All these references keep the two Universes, while separate, very connected. I do hope to see Fury or maybe another Avenger at some point in the show.
All together I give the Pilot 4 ingredients, but it isn't really even fair to judge it because it IS a Pilot. Thank you for reading my review of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 1: Pilot.
